Marking

Grading

Converting marks into a result — a score, grade band or pass/fail decision.

What is grading?

Grading is the step that turns raw marks into a meaningful result — a percentage, a grade band (for example Merit or Borderline Pass), or a simple pass/fail decision. It usually follows marking and, for human-marked work, moderation.

Grading needs to be consistent and defensible: the same performance should earn the same grade every time, and you should be able to show how a grade was reached. Synap handles marking, moderation, resolution and grade bands as part of its marking and grading workflow.
