What is an assignment on Synap?

An assignment is an ordered set of tasks a learner works through to a deadline — a mix of readings, videos and notes, quizzes and surveys, written answers and file uploads. It can group learners, track progress and issue a certificate on completion.

How do learners submit their work?

Through the assignment itself: they can upload a document or zip and submit a whole project via a File Upload task, and type written responses with a text-entry task. Quizzes inside the assignment are answered on-platform.

Can we set deadlines and extensions?

Yes. Each assignment has start and end dates and a deadline, different groups can have different deadlines on the same assignment, and you can grant extra time to individual candidates who need it.

How is coursework marked?

Quizzes are auto-marked instantly. Submissions (uploads and written answers) are marked by your team against rubrics, with multiple marker roles — provisional, moderating, back-reading and auditing — and resolution rules that produce a defensible final mark. You control when feedback and mark schemes are released.

Can we check submissions for plagiarism?

Synap doesn’t include a built-in plagiarism checker, but you can connect an external originality service through our API and webhooks and store the originality report link against each submission — so plagiarism checking fits into your existing workflow.

Do learners get a certificate?

Yes. On successful completion you can issue a digital certificate that’s verifiable via a public validation URL and can carry an expiry date — the same certificates you use for exams.
