Question statistics

The item-level metrics that show how each question performed — difficulty, discrimination and how each option was chosen.

What are question statistics?

Question statistics (or item statistics) are the numbers that tell you how a single question actually performed once candidates have answered it. The core measures are item difficulty — how hard it proved — and discrimination — how well it separated stronger from weaker candidates.

They also include distractor analysis: how many candidates chose each option, which reveals whether the wrong answers are doing their job or whether an option is misleading. Together, question statistics are what let assessment teams keep a question bank sharp, fair and defensible. Synap reports them on every question.
