Plagiarism

Presenting someone else's work or words as your own — a key integrity risk in written and coursework assessment.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work, words or ideas as your own without proper attribution. In assessment it's a central integrity concern for written work, essays and coursework — anywhere a candidate produces extended text rather than selecting an answer.

Plagiarism is usually addressed with originality checking: comparing a submission against other sources and past work to flag unoriginal content for a marker to review. Synap doesn't include a built-in checker, but connects external originality services through its API and webhooks, storing a report against each submission so it fits your existing workflow.
