What is a classification question?

A classification question gives the candidate a set of items and two or more categories. The candidate places each item into the category it belongs to.

When to use it

Use classification when you want to know whether candidates understand what puts something in one group rather than another, such as sorting examples of renewable and non-renewable energy, or symptoms by likely cause.

How Synap marks it

Classification questions are auto marked. Each placement is checked against the correct category, giving instant, consistent results.

Authoring tips

Choose items that clearly belong to one category, and include a few that test common confusions. Keep category names short and unambiguous.
