# Overview

Open a User when you need to understand one person’s account, learning activity or access.

**Profile sections**

| Section | What you can answer |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Overview | Who is this person, what data is stored about them and have they used the portal recently? |
| Insights and Progress | What have they attempted, how are they performing and how much have they completed? |
| Assignments, Exams and Collections | Which content is associated with them and what is its current state? |
| User groups | Which roles and cohorts do they belong to? |
| Permissions | What administrative abilities are granted directly to this account? |
| Administration | Is the account active and which account actions are available? |
| Email history | Which Synap messages have been sent to them? |
| Records of learning | Which external or manually recorded activities form part of their history? |

The header shows the person’s name and Synap identifier (ID), and can offer **Message** when your own account is allowed to contact them.

{% hint style="info" %}
When access looks wrong, do not stop at the individual profile. Content and staff capabilities can be inherited through any of the person’s User groups.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://synap.ac/docs/platform/users/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
