# Access arrangements

Access arrangements record approved assessment adjustments for an individual learner. They are commonly used to provide additional time in supported controlled assessments.

The arrangement belongs to the user, while the Exam defines the assessment’s normal timing and delivery rules. Synap combines the supported settings when creating the learner’s experience.

### Before an assessment

1. Confirm the approved adjustment and whether it applies to this assessment.
2. Record it against the correct user, using a stable identifier to verify the account.
3. Check the Exam’s own timing, schedule and candidate access.
4. Preview or test with a representative learner record where possible.
5. Confirm the effective time before the live sitting begins.

An Access arrangement does not repair an incorrectly configured Exam. Check both the individual adjustment and the Exam settings, particularly after copying or rescheduling an assessment.
