# Permissions, access and sharing

The Settings pages control how the group participates in Synap beyond simple membership.

| Page        | Purpose                                                               |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Permissions | Grants additive staff capabilities globally or for specific resources |
| Access      | Applies available access policies to the group                        |
| Sharing     | Makes the group available in supported portal or Subportal scopes     |
| Advanced    | Holds specialised group behaviour where enabled                       |

Permissions are primarily for Educator teams. They do not control ordinary Student content access, and Administrators can already perform all portal actions. For the full model and permission matrix, use **Advanced features → Permissions**.

Removing a Permission from this group does not guarantee that a user loses it. They may still receive the same capability from another group or a direct grant.
