# Marking

Question-level Marking settings control how a response contributes to the quiz score and how manually reviewed work is assessed.

The options depend on question type.

| Setting                      | Purpose                                                                   |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Credit or maximum credit** | The points available for a correct or fully successful response.          |
| **Partial credit**           | Points awarded for a partially correct response.                          |
| **Penalty**                  | Points deducted for an incorrect response.                                |
| **Scoring method**           | Determines how options, blanks or hotspot areas contribute to the result. |
| **Point per blank**          | Scores individual blanks in supported Cloze questions.                    |
| **Marking resolution**       | Controls the increments available to a manual marker.                     |
| **Mark scheme**              | Gives markers criteria, guidance or a model response.                     |

Automatically marked types use configured answers or areas. Free text, recordings, uploads, spreadsheets and off-platform work normally require a marker.
