# Email settings

Email settings define the appearance of portal email, registration messaging, marketing consent and portal-level notification preferences.

### Sender and shared presentation

| Setting      | Behaviour                                                                |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Sender name  | The “from” name shown on outgoing email.                                 |
| Sender email | Displayed but disabled in the portal editor. Contact Synap to change it. |
| Header logo  | Image displayed in supported email templates.                            |
| Footer       | Optional rich-text footer appended to email.                             |

Use a sender name that recipients will recognise. Changing the displayed sender does not change the underlying sending domain.

### Welcome and registration email

You can customise the welcome-email subject and body. Leaving the body blank uses the default welcome template. Portals with text variables enabled can insert supported variables in the custom body.

**User registration confirmation email** controls whether a successful registrant receives the registration email.

### Marketing consent

The registration flow can ask users for consent to marketing email. When enabled, administrators can customise the checkbox label, choose whether it is selected by default, and require confirmation by email.

These settings provide product controls, not legal advice. Make the wording and default state match the lawful basis and consent standard that applies to your organisation and audience.

### Email notifications

Portal-level notification groups control categories of transactional email. Review the recipients and triggers for each group before disabling it, especially for assessment operations and account access.
